"Spirit
Keeper"
On
the base of a protective mask from the cobalt brain-cancer therapy of a friend,
an artist began a ceremonial act of creation: first for this friend's healing,
then in honour of her valiant death. Incorporating sacred designs used by
Indian mothers to protect their children, Jane Evans covered with tin crystal
beads this simulacrum of hr friend's face, implicit with all its history of
suffering and courage.
This
computer-collage is composed from images by Jane Evans and words by Ana Roy.
A
ceremonial offering honouring the life and courage of Judith McGarry, and for
the present healing and future life of Comandante Ramona.
Eyes
say it all:
your face in my eyes
forever,
your eyes
your speaking eyes.
