When travelling through the Mexican landscape, I was mesmerized by the tree forms...gnarled, nearly white trunks, barren of leaves, like prickly screens shielding the viewer from the devastated waters at the feet of these majestic and hardy sabine trees...the title of the painting "Rape of the Sabines" kept scratching at my mind.
